Triple your iPad / iPhone battery life while reading.

I hate iBooks, it desperately needs a color scheme modifier, but it’s the only reader that has a means to turn your brightness down significantly.

Not to mention black on stale urine yellow is the worst scheme I’ve seen, but a color scheme modifier will save millions of users from having to go manually reverse colors to triple reading battery life.

(If you want this, go search the app store for iBooks and submit a review asking for it! If we don’t all complain it’ll never happen.)

For those wishing to manually achieve this, go to Settings > Accessibility > White on Black > On

This will invert your iPad or iPhones color scheme entirely, meaning you’re using ~98% less illuminated pixels, fiddle your brightness setting to darken it to the lowest possible while retaining contrast and you’ll be tripling your battery life minimum if not significantly more.

Also double tap your home key and kill off background processes and turn 3G off or aeroplane mode on to save a fair bit more!

Reasoning and Logic, or How to not Look Dumb

I was asked by a friend to explain deductive, inductive, assumptive and a few other forms of reasoning logic. I had a think about the most succinct way to do so and I arrived at the following: –

Deductive logic,

2 + 2

2 + 1 = 3 . : 2 + 2 ≠ 3
14 + 2 = 1 . : 2 + 2 ≠ 16
2 + 8 = 10 . : 2 + 2 ≠ 10
Et cetera, ad nauseum.

Inductive logic,

2 + 2

(2 = 2) + (2 = 2) = (4 = 4), right?

Nihilistic logic,

2 + 2

Freudian logic,

2 + 2

( . Y . )

Socratic logic,

2 + 2

2 + 2 ≠ 1, why?

Assumptive logic,

2 + 2

2 is a fag . : 2 + 2 = 69

Feel free to spread the word that assumptive reasoning makes it’s user look an ass 100% of the time and pass this on.

More Proof there’s No God (Or if there is that he is a psychopath)

A SPANISH man making a pilgrimage to say thank you to the “Virgin of Miracles” for his survival in a road crash has been killed with two aunts when a car hit them.

The 40-year-old truck driver was among a group of half a dozen pilgrims walking from his north-western hometown of Ordes to Caion, about 30 kilometres away, an official said today.

“He survived a road accident last year and they were going to thank the ‘Virgin of Miracles’ of Caion,” the spokeswoman for the mayor’s office in Ordes said.

“He did not even manage to walk one kilometre and was still in Ordes.”

Traffic officials said they suspect the driver of the car that struck the pilgrims fell asleep at the wheel.

Aussie Taxes pay for Animal Cruelty in Muslim Nations

Labor MP Melissa Parke says Australians have the right to feel outraged that taxpayer dollars have been spent on “an investment in animal cruelty in Indonesia”.

Australia has provided over 100 Mark I boxes to Indonesian abattoirs at a cost of $1 million to taxpayers and another $1 million to industry body Meat and Livestock Australia.

But in a report released yesterday, Australia’s acting chief veterinary officer Mark Schipp found the boxes cause undue injury and distress to cattle, thereby breaching international slaughter standards.

The federal government, which suspended funding for further Mark I boxes in June to coincide with its month-long suspension of live exports to Indonesia, has since made the ban permanent.

Ms Parke, one of several Labor MPs who oppose live exports contrary to the party line, said today the boxes inflicted “trauma and torture” on Australian animals, and both major parties were to blame.

“Taxpayer funding contributed to the installation of these devices,” she told parliament.

“Financial contributions from government towards these boxes were made under both parties’ watch and the community has every reason to feel outraged that this has effectively been an investment in animal cruelty in Indonesia.”

Australia suspended live exports to Indonesia between June and July after graphic footage of inhumane slaughters was shown on television, sparking a public outcry.

But despite the government’s insistence that it has improved animal welfare standards as a result, Ms Parke said there has been a “steady trickle of disturbing evidence that points to the culpability of the live export industry”.

Recent footage released by animal activists suggest international breaches in Turkish abattoirs, where sheep and cattle were filmed being strung up by their hind legs and their throats sometimes stabbed.

Ms Parke believes the majority of Australians want to follow in the footsteps of New Zealand and ban live exports.

In the meantime, she said at the very least, stunning should be made mandatory, as it is in Australia apart from halal killings.

She dismissed the belief that stunning of beasts wasn’t possible in Middle Eastern markets, arguing Jordan is proof it does work.

Eighty per cent of Australian animals sent to Jordan go to facilities that stun, while the remainder will be upgraded as a matter of course, Ms Parke said.

Labor MPs have received a letter from Princess Alia al Hussein of Jordan, urging Australia to make stunning compulsory.

“It is important for countries in my region which have yet to implement animal protection laws, to see that the Australian government places great importance on animal welfare and ensuring that animals are humanely treated throughout the process,” Princess Alia wrote.

Ms Parke said there was no greater indication about what next steps should be than the direct request from a major customer to set the bar higher.

“If live export is to continue for the foreseeable future, the very least we can do is to properly protect the welfare of animals and the most basic protection we can afford them is pre-slaughter stunning.

“Australians expect it, producers have overwhelmingly signalled they want it, religious authorities accept it, there is no reason not to do it.”

Libya, The Insanity of Trading a Dictator for Fundamentalist Islam

With all the ‘liberation’ of all these poor down trodden middle eastern dictatorships going on, I quite often stop and notice (unlike your average punter, clearly) that yes, whilst the outgoing regime is unforgivably heinous yadda yadda fucking yadda, but all the ‘liberation’ armies are batshit insane fundamentalist muslims.

Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place. You’ve got dictators who KNOW they can’t sneeze without the US offering to ‘liberate’ them, like their invasion of Iraq (Anyone remember why that happened? WMD’s? Invisible ones!) and Afghanistan (To catch some batshit insane muslim who ran away days before the 9/11 attacks.) on one hand, yet on the other you have zealot crazed jihadists who want to install equally crazed jihadist tribal councils instead of a normal democratic government, all under a guise of democracy of course, with all the t’s dotted and i’s crossed to appease the powers that be.

The question is, why would you trust a bunch of insane religious nuts who kill in the name of fictional characters from a childs storybook more than you would some 80′s ray ban toting Z-grade hollywood drop out with nappy hair and a penchant for plastic surgery enough to look like Freddy Krueger?

Am I patently absurd for thinking you’re better off with the devil you know? Especially given all the devils in question have been toeing the line of ‘blah blah anti-terrorism blah democracy blah suck uncle sams dick blah blah’ that everyone wants to hear because they KNOW that they can’t be seen to not uphold those views?

I mean hell, the Iranian government can’t even slander their best buds, Israel, without drawing threats of NATO invasions. You REALLY think these muslim whack jobs are going to give a flying fuck if you threaten to ‘liberate’ them US style if they slander the US? It wouldn’t surprise me if they use this as another excuse of arabic pride to try and ‘drive israel into the ocean’ like they did the last time they got their collective arses whooped in a 10,000:1 ratio of Arab militant thug to Israeli soldier.

Somehow I don’t think that replacing tyrants with a council of tyrants all of whom argue that they have a direct line to the big man upstairs in some manner of batshit insane desert people who make up fictional entities and set humanity against one another for several thousand years exclusively is a bright idea.

In Russia Rocket Shoots You?

Russian police are investigating the freak death of a woman killed by a homemade missile launched by her husband.

The victim was looking on as her aviation-enthusiast spouse assembled his makeshift rocket in a field, RIA Novosti reported.

But the launch when horribly wrong when the missile blasted off and veered toward her, striking the woman in the head.

Authorities in Vologda, northwest Russia, said the wife was rushed to the hospital but died soon after the accident, which happened earlier this month.

“During the launch, the model rocket veered off course and hit his wife in the head. The woman died in the hospital,” investigators said today.

The 42-year-old husband, who works for an aviation company, could face up to two years in prison for manslaughter, the state-owned Russian news agency said

In other news another man faces two years in jail for accidentally shooting dead his wife as the couple attempted to slaughter a pig, RIA Novosti reported today.

The 60-year-old was loading a homemade firearm to kill the animal when it inadvertently went off.

The blast struck his wife, killing her instantly, according to authorities in Russia’s Tula region, 200km south of Moscow.

The husband faces charges of negligent homicide and a possible jail sentence over the apparent accident, the state-owned news agency said.
